About Artwork: (1748) "Canaletto lived for nine years in England, where he traveled when war reduced the number of British customers visiting Venice. This view of Warwick, a Norman castle about twenty miles from Birmingham, comes from that period. It is one of several paintings and drawings commissioned from Canaletto by one of his most important English patrons and the castle’s owner, Francis Greville, Lord Brooke (1719–1773), later 1st Earl of Warwick." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
