About Artwork: (ca. 1900) "The largest of Ryder’s marines, "Under a Cloud" reflects his appreciation of the sea, first developed during his boyhood in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Even after he moved to New York in 1870, Ryder continued his contact with the maritime world.
