The Sacrifice of Isaac
Artist: Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo (Italian, 1727–1804)
Original Dimensions: 15 3/8" x 21"
Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
About Artwork: (mid-1750s) "An angel keeps Abraham from sacrificing his son Issac, as God had commanded him to do as a test of his faithfulness. The loose paint handling and daring composition of this painting are very similar to works by his father Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. It was probably painted when both artists worked together on the decoration of the Residenz at Würzburg." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
