Sally Sanford Perit
Artist: Reuben Moulthrop (American, 1763–1814)
Original Dimensions: 36 1/4" x 29 3/4"
Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
About Artwork: (1790) "One of the most talented artists of the Connecticut school, Moulthrop must have acquired his obvious knowledge of English portraiture by studying books and prints. His exaggerated portrayal of Mrs. Perit's coiffure and headdress is in keeping with similar images in contemporary fashion plates. He may also have studied paintings by Ralph Earl, whose works can also be seen in the Museum's collection." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
