About Artwork: (not listed) "The sitter was married to Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751–1816), a famous playwright and member of Parliament. In this portrait, shown at the Royal Academy in 1797, she strikes a theatrical pose in the guise of a rural laborer bearing her son Charles on her shoulder.
