Mountainous Landscape with Bridge
Artist: Eugène-Joseph Verboeckhoven (Belgian, 1798–1881)
Original Dimensions: 22 1/2" x 18 1/4"
Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
About Artwork: (not listed) "Verboeckhoven was a leading nineteenth-century animalier painter who specialized in livestock. In this view, he reversed the typical scale of figure to ground, resulting in one of his rare pure landscapes. (A diminutive pair of deer appears at lower center.) It was perhaps inspired by the scenery of the Ardennes forest, which the artist visited in the 1820s." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
