The younger Reade played an active role in the social, political, and business circles of the New York colony. In 1715 he was made a member of the vestry at Trinity Church, and for more than fifty years he was a vestryman or warden. He also served as a juryman and as a member of the Common Council of the City of New York. It was in the capacity of member of the governor’s council that he worked to delay the implementation of the Stamp Act in 1765. Reade died possessed of substantial holdings in minerals and ores.
