About Artwork: (ca. 1710) "Trevisani trained in Venice but spent most of his life working for the papal court in Rome. He depicted Christ held by angels on several occasions, most importantly for Pope Clement XI, and for the Papal Nephew Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni. This canvas may be the one commissioned in 1707 by Giovanni Fonticelli, a friend of the artist. While one angel lovingly cradles Christ’s muscular body, the other turns his head away in an elegant expression of distress." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
