Artist: Edouard Vuillard (French, 1868–1940)
Original Dimensions: 15 1/2" x 19 1/2"
Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
About Artwork: (1897–98) "The intimacy of a shaded grove surrounded by dark tree trunks gives this outdoor scene the look of an interior. The woman on the right is Misia Natanson (née Godebska, 1872–1903), who appeared in many of Vuillard's paintings as well as in works by Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard, and Renoir. Vuillard made three versions of this gloomy scene, all of which were in his studio at his death." - (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
