About Artwork: (1895) "In his last three decades Homer lived at Prouts Neck, Maine, making his studio view of coastal rocks and pounding surf the primary subject of his art. Intent on capturing the changing mood and movement of the ocean with increasingly bold brushwork and keen detail, he focused on the power of nature and its profound mysteries. One critic marveled that Homer presented the "waves of the sea, as never before so studied, observed, suggested, and characterized."
